Who we are... We are a small Out Of School Care program, designed to serve the needs of working parents who desire high quality child care for their school age children.
Where we are... We are located in the community of Douglasdale. As of July 1st, 2011, we will be operating from Douglasdale School, in room 19.
Douglasdale School is located at #400 Douglaspark Blvd. SE. Calgary, Alberta

Before & After School Program / Out of School Care
We service SE schools, including Douglasdale and Mountain Park. We provide a safe place for kids during their “out of school”, hours where they can play, relax and make new friends. There are also endless opportunities for kids to explore their world creatively, be active, and be engaged with their peers and leaders in a fun, positive, social atmosphere.
Hours of Operation
We are open from September to June. Our program runs from 6:45AM to 6:00PM. On regular school days our Before School Program starts at 6:45AM. Our After School Program opens at 2:50PM for the arrival of our first students and closes at 6:00.
On PD Days, Organizational days, or other full days off from school, we open at 7:00AM and provide activities and care for the whole day, closing again at 6:00PM.
Fees Registration Fee - $100 This is a one time fee for when any child first enrolls in any Step Ahead program.
School Age Child - $450 Includes all PD Days and Spring/Winter Camp days. No additional charges for days off or activities.
Drop In School Day - $40 Parents who only need to utilize our services one or two times a month may be able to make use of our day to day drop In programs.
Drop In 1/2 Day - $50 Early Dismissals
Drop In Full Day - $60 Camp Days, PD Days, Org Days
**NOTE** Drop in Care is only available as space permits. It is the parents responsibility to ensure busing arrangements have been made. During many Non-School days such as Professional Days and Early Dismissals A Step Ahead will be open for care.
Parents enrolled in monthly programs do not have to pay extra for Professional Day/Organizational Days and Early Dismissals. Care and field trip costs are covered in monthly fees.
Here’s how to register… A. Fill out a current Registration Form it its entirety [even the annoying spaces you may have to look up]. There are printable forms available on this site. B. Pay the one-time registration fee by cheque. C. If a space is available, please submit Post– Dated Cheques for the school year (Or Remaining School Year Months) to Pay for Fees. Cheques may be made out to “A Step Ahead” and dated for the 1st of each month. Parents paying for more than one child are welcome to write their fees on one cheque.
Registration is only complete and confirmed upon receipt of all the above mentioned items. Failure to ensure this registration process is complete, may impact your child’s space with our programs. Children who are already enrolled in our program have the opportunity to re-register for the next year before spaces are opened to the public.
